Directions to the Forest



There are four great entry points for riding Governor Knowles State Forest's equestrian trails.  The following instructions use Wisconsin Highway 87 in Polk County near the town of Cushing as a starting point.  Highway 87 runs between St. Croix Falls on the south end and Grantsburg, WI on the north.



New Trade River Campground - Evergreen Ave and 300th Street 

From Wisconsin State Highway 87

West on 255th Street (Evergreen) about .5 mile

West on Evergreen about 4 miles

New Trade River Horse Campground is on the south side of Evergreen (just past the Chapel) at 300th Street 


Trade River Day Use Area - 2976 Evergreen Ave (270th Avenue)

From Wisconsin State Highway 87

West on 255th Street (Evergreen) about .5 mile

West on Evergreen about 4 miles

Trade River Day Use Area is on the south side of Evergreen before bridge





Northwest Parking Lot - 290th Avenue and 340th Street 

From Wisconsin State Highway 87


West on 255th Street (Evergreen) about .5 mile

West on Evergreen about 8 miles

North on 340th Street 2 miles




Wolf Creek Bar & Grill - 2393 River Road 

From Wisconsin State Highway 87

West on 240th Avenue (County Road G) 3.5 miles

South on River Road  .5 miles

Wolf Creek Bar & Grill is on the west side of River Road after the bridge
